Festival to fight invasive species returns to Shepard Park

The S.A.V.E. the Lake Festival will fill Shepard Park with live music, arts and crafts and bounce houses this Friday, Aug. 3 through Sunday, Aug. 5. The Festival, referred to by many as “The Mayor’s Festival,” is organized by Village Mayor Robert Blais, Honorary Chairman of the S.A.V.E. (Stop Aquatic inVasives from Entering) Lake George Partnership.

Funds raised during the 3-day festival benefit local programs to protect the health of Lake George. Last year, the festival donated more than $15,000 to salt reduction initiatives and the mandatory boat inspection program, which is critical to keeping invasive species out of the lake.

The Festival kicks off Friday with the Friday’s at the Lake Band and Brews concert. The Switch, a rock/ blues/funk band from Bolton Landing opens at 6 p.m. followed by the modern country music of Skeeter Creek.
Elvis tribute artist Drew Polsun opens Saturday’s music lineup at noon followed by pop rock, jazz/funk, soul, hip-hop and afrobeat bands. Sunday brings local favorites in country, bluegrass and classic rock.  Party band The Refrigerators close out the festival Sunday evening.

Admission to the festival is free. Donations to support the protection of Lake George will be accepted. Donors will receive a 2018 Festival t-shirt. There will be face painting for the kids and additional entertainment provided by a strolling magician. More than 25 craft vendors will be selling their wares. A variety of food trucks will be in the park as well.
