The 59th Annual Lake George Winter Carnival wraps-up this weekend with two days of on- and off-ice activities. Although the fickle weather forced organizers to cancel the AMEC car races and the 4×4 drags, the lake, Shepard Park and the sidewalks along Canada street were bustling with people out enjoying the sunshine and relatively mild air temperature.
Saturday morning, the line began to form early for the popular Chicken Wing Cook-off, which featured entries from 12 area restaurants. Holiday Inn’s TRs Restaurant garnered first place with a rich barbecued wing. The Lagoon took 2nd place with a traditional Buffalo-style wing that incorporated bleu cheese in its offering, and Outback Steakhouse won 3rd.
On the ice, Adirondack Pond Hockey held a two-day tournament. Five rinks saw action with 21 four-man teams divided into two divisions. The All-Star Division included players with tournament experience; the Coulda-Been-A-Star Division was for the less competitive players looking for fun. Teams in each division competed for a $500 prize.
