Lake George American Legion to celebrate 100 years with parade, concert, BBQ

9/27/2022 UPDATE: The Chicken Barbecue will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. The time frame for the barbecue originally was misstated. The Lake George Community Band concert in Shepard Park will be held 6-7:30 p.m.

Lake George will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of American Legion Post 374 on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022. The not-for-profit veteran’s organization has, for decades, served area veterans and has been an integral part of the Lake George community.

Anniversary celebrations will begin with a parade stepping off at noon on Beach Road and traveling up Canada Street to Shepard Park. The parade will include bands and floats. Local fire departments will be displaying their apparatus and competing for awards.

The American Legion will serve refreshments at an open house at the post headquarters, 3932 Route 9L, Lake George, from noon until 9 p.m.

From 4 to 6 p.m., the post will be holding a chicken barbecue. Tickets for the barbecue are $20 and may be purchased at the Lake George Village Hall, 26 Old Post Road, or from an American Legion member. The chicken dinner is available to eat in or take out.

The Lake George Community Band will take the stage in Shepard Park at 6 p.m. for a free concert of patriotic music. A fireworks show and display of a giant American flag on McDonald Pier will follow the concert.
