Carbon emissions rising from the Village of Lake George may have increased slightly this past weekend as more than 1,500 pre-1980 automobiles rumbled into town for the 28th Adirondack Nationals Car Show. The event, sponsored by Albany Rods & Customs, attracts thousands of spectators each year to glory in automobile history.
Vehicles registered with the show began arriving Thursday, Sept. 8 to find their spot on the lawn of the Fort William Henry Resort, the Adirondack Nationals’ home base. By Friday evening, the Village streets were teeming with nostalgia. Vendors sold their automobile-related wares on the show grounds and at the Festival Commons in Wood Park just south of the Fort William Henry.
The Night Crusin’ event is a favorite with car show fans. A section of New York State Route 9 closes to regular traffic on the Friday and Saturday nights of the show allowing the proud owners of car show entries to parade their vehicles in a continuous loop.
This year’s Crusin’ traveled along the Southern shore of Lake George on Beach Road and north on Canada Street. The drive-up to the Beach Road parking lot served as Pit Road for autos that needed a break from the two-hour parade. Thousands of car enthusiasts lined the route each night to witness the display of highly polished steel, chrome and exhaust fumes.
