The traditional Lake George New Year’s Day Polar Plunge returns to Shepard Park Beach. The cost to join the plunge is $20. All funds benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children, Lake George Volunteer Fire Department and other fire companies that help with the event. Long-sleeve Polar Plunge shirts will be available for $15.
Plungers will enter the lake in waves of 400 with the first plunge scheduled for 1 p.m., the second plunge at 1:15 and the third plunge at 1:30 p.m. Register at Duffy’s Tavern, Lower Amherst Street beginning Dec. 31, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Jan.1 beginning at 10:30 a.m. For more information, contact Duffy’s at (518)668-5323 or (518)361-2559.

The artists of Ice Castles have created a winter wonderland at the Festival Commons with lighted walkways, ice sculptures, warming stations and an outdoor ice-skating rink. The attraction is open six nights a week through March 3, 2024. Ticket prices start at $17 for adults and $14 for children ages 4-11 years. Children aged 3 and younger are free.

A multimedia experience that uses light, images, music, sound effects and projections to invoke the sensations of a winter night. Six installations immerse visitors in a dream-like world of swirling snow, glittering ice, towering forests and glowing full moons.
Winter’s Dream will be open through March 31, 2024. Hours are sunset to 10 p.m. The attraction is open five days a week, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Ticket prices start at $23.90 for adults, $19.90 for children ages 4-12, $21.90 for seniors ages 65+. Children aged 3 and younger are free. A free program presented by historian and author Dr. Phillip Hamilton will explore Knox’s letters to his wife that give details of transformative events of the American Revolution including the transport of artillery from Ticonderoga to Boston during the winter of 1775-76. The program is sponsored by the Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance and the Warren County Commission for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. The 2024 Lake George Winter Carnival opens Saturday, February 3 with Opening Ceremonies in Shepard Park at noon. Opening Day parade steps off at 4 p.m. and travels up Canada Street.
The Lake George Winter Carnival includes races (on the ice if the Lake is frozen), cook-offs, children’s activities, bonfires, fireworks, dog talent shows, polar plunges and much more. Proceeds from the sale are used to fund civic beautification and community service projects, donations to local charities, and camperships for youth to attend the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s Camp Colby near Saranac Lake.

The Adirondack Nationals Car Show brings more than 1,500 lovingly restored vintage autos, muscle cars and other pre-1972 vehicles to Lake George. The show is headquartered at the Fort William Henry Hotel. Entered vehicles and more than 250 vendors set up on the hotel grounds and at the Festival Commons in Wood Park. A highlight of the show is the Friday and Saturday night Car Crusin’ when owners of registered vehicles drive a continuous loop through Lake George Village to a cheering crowd. What began more than 40 years ago as a town-wide yard sale has grown to a fall celebration with food and flea market vendors, arts and crafts producers, antique dealers, and church bazaars stretching along Main Street in Warrensburg. More than 100 residential yard sales fill the town’s neighborhoods. The annual sale, organized by the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce, attracts tens of thousands of bargain hunters each year to enjoy the festival atmosphere and fall foliage.
