The tradition of washing away the old year with a chilly dip into Lake George continues at Shepard Park Beach on Jan. 1, 2025. Sign up at Duffy’s Tavern, 320 Canada Street, on Dec. 31, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or New Year’s Day starting at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $20. Proceeds benefit the Springfield Shriners Hospitals and the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department. Long-sleeved Polar Plunge t-shirts are available for $15. Plungers enter the lake in waves of 400 beginning at 1 p.m. The plunge is followed by a Polar Plunge Party at Duffy’s, 2-6 p.m. with live music by Coverups.

Walk-through holiday light displays run from Shepard Park on Canada Street, along Beach Road, and through the Festival Commons in Wood Park. The Lake George event includes free skating at the rink on Beach Road. Admission to the light displays and skating is free. Skate rentals are available for $5.

Lake George Winter Carnival

Headquarters in Shepard ParkThe 2025 Lake George Winter Carnival opens Saturday, February 1 and has been expanded to the first weekend in March. The Winter Carnival includes races (on the ice if the Lake is frozen), cook-offs, children’s activities, bonfires, fireworks, dog talent shows, and polar plunges. The final weekend brings Lumberjack Shows.

Proceeds from the sale are used to fund civic beautification and community service projects, donations to local charities, and camperships for youth to attend the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s Camp Colby near Saranac Lake.

Memorial Day Parade

The Lake George American Legion Post Memorial Day parade steps off from West Brook Road at 11:30 a.m. and travels to Shepard Park. The parade is followed by a service at the Veterans Memorial in Shepard Park.

The Adirondack Nationals Car Show is the premier muscle car show of the Northeast with more than 1,500 vintage autos, muscle cars and other pre-1972 vehicles. The show is headquartered at the Fort William Henry Hotel. Entered vehicles and more than 250 vendors set up on the hotel grounds and at the Festival Commons in Wood Park. A highlight of the show is the Friday and Saturday night Car Crusin’ when owners of registered vehicles drive a continuous loop through Lake George Village to a cheering crowd. What began more than 40 years ago as a town-wide yard sale has grown to a fall celebration with food and flea market vendors, arts and crafts producers, antique dealers, and church bazaars stretching along Main Street in Warrensburg.
