Citing a lack of snow at the previously scheduled venue in Belmont, N.H., East Coast Snocross announced yesterday, Feb. 5, it will return to Lake George this weekend for the fifth round of its 2012-2013 series of eight races. The races, which are sanctioned by the International Series of Champions (ISOC), will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 and Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Charles Wood Park (Gaslight Village) on Westbrook Road.
East Coast Snocross debuted in Lake George two weeks ago, drawing large crowds to witness the high-performance snowmobiles race on a course of tight turns and steep jumps. Snocross is a winter version of motocross racing and has been an event in the ESPN Winter X Games since 1998.
The gates open at 10:30 a.m. both days for spectators, with pro-racing scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 8-12. Children age 7 and younger are admitted free with a paid adult. Spectators may purchase a weekend pit pass for an additional $10. Racers will be running practice rounds on Friday at the Gaslight Village site.
The race comes during the second weekend of the Lake George Winter Carnival, which has a full-schedule of events planned both on and off the ice. This weekend’s Carnival features a flag football competition, the Tavern Competition, a Barbecue cook-off and Saturday evening fireworks. Visit the Carnival website for a full listing of events.
