Photos: Fall foliage colors are at peak in Lake George

Just north of Lake George, the trees are rapidly shedding their leaves. The brisk winds and soaking rain of a Nor’easter that passed through on October 16 and 17 stripped away much of the foliage in Northern Warren County. While there is still plenty of color to be seen in Warrensburg, Bolton and North Creek, the flaming scarlets and golds are quickly being replaced by the feathery gray of naked trees, bare limbs waiting for that first dusting of snow.

In Lake George Village, the leaves are still hanging on for another weekend. Shepard Park and Blais Park are both filled with color, as are French and Prospect Mountains. The temperatures have remained mild, but with winter coming, the lake has become quieter as most boaters have pulled their vessels from the water for the season. For leaf-peepers, this may be the best weekend to visit Lake George for the maximum amount of color and all that is wonderful about autumn.
