Registration opens for Hike-A-Thon 2022

Registration for the Lake George Land Conservancy’s 10th Annual Hike-A-Thon opened this week. The event, a LGLC community outreach program, is held July 5 each year. The Hike-A-Thon is suitable for people new to hiking as well as veteran hikers. Participants may select a hike or paddle to join, or they may sign up for a virtual hike. Hike-A-Thon 2022 has nearly two dozen sites in the Lake George Area to choose from. Hikes are categorized by difficulty levels ranging from easy to challenging. All hikes are on lands the LGLC has helped to protect.

With the virtual hikes, which were added in 2020 to comply with pandemic safety protocols, participants hike any trail on their own. Virtual participants are encouraged to post selfies of their hike to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #LGHikeAThon2022 and #HikeLakeGeorge and tag the Conservancy with @HikeLakeGeorge and @LakeGeorgeHikeAThon.

Hikers are encouraged to sign up early as popular hikes fill up quickly. Anyone who signs up by March 31 will receive a free Hike-A-Thon 2022 t-shirt. To celebrate the event’s 10th anniversary, the LGLC is offering a special edition tie-dyed shirt (adult sizes only), which may be purchased during registration for $20.

Most sites allow hikers to bring their well-behaved, leashed dogs. If severe weather, such as a thunderstorm threat, forces cancellation of any hike, organizers will contact registrants. Light rain will not cancel the Hike-A-Thon.

Participants and their guests are invited to the Hike-A-Thon After Party, which will be held at the Bolton Community Center, 56 Edgecomb Pond Road in Bolton, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 5, 2022. The party offers food, drinks, activities and the opportunity to purchase LGLC and Hike-A-Thon merchandise.

This is a free event, however, donations to the Lake George Land Conservancy are appreciated to help cover event costs.

LGLC is an accredited not-for-profit land trust. The organization works within the Lake George watershed in the southeastern corner of the Adirondack Park.
