Despite summer storms that brought downpours to the Lake George region this past weekend, 140 anglers headed out to the lake to compete in the 2nd Annual King George Fishing Derby. Check-in for the Derby was Friday evening, July 9, and participants set out Saturday and Sunday hoping to hook the tournament’s largest smallmouth bass, largemouth bass or lake trout. Fish categories were divided into Adult and Junior (younger than 16) divisions. Official weight stations were set up at the Village docks in Lake George, at Rogers Memorial Park in Bolton and at the Mossy Point Boat Launch in Ticonderoga.
According to a Village of Lake George press release, boats came from as far away as Florida, Maryland and Maine to participate in the Derby, which offered $15,000 in prizes across the categories. Winners in the Adult Division were awarded cash prizes, with the first place winner in each category bringing home $2,500. Cash prizes were also awarded to 2nd through 5th place winners. Winners in the Junior Division took home prizes of merchandise donated by Derby sponsors.
