After a COVID-related hiatus, the King George Fishing Derby is returning to Lake George the weekend of September 16-17. The derby, which launched in 2015, is expected to attract hundreds of anglers from across the region to compete for a share of $7,000 in prize money.
The lake-wide event has Adult and Youth (younger than age 16) divisions with prizes awarded in the following categories: Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Salmon, and Northern Pike. Registered competitors must land their catches on Saturday, Sept. 16, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. or Sunday, Sept. 17, between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Former Village of Lake George Mayor and current Director of Events, Robert Blais, is working with the pros at the Lake George Fishing Superstore, fish307.com, to organize the derby.
“We want in some way to show our appreciation to the anglers for their unconditional support and at the same time raise awareness of the fantastic fishing opportunities of our lake,” Blais says in a Village press release.
Online registration is now open at the Fish307.com website. Anglers may also register in person at the Lake George Fishing Superstore located just off Adirondack Northway Exit 21 at 814 Goggins Road, Lake George. Registration flyers will also be available at local tackle and bait shops.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Lake George water quality protection programs, local conservationists and youth fishing programs.
