Lake George 2024 Winter Carnival to open with ceremony, outhouses, and chili

After an unusually warm start to the year, two back-to-back snowstorms have transformed the Lake George region into a winter wonderland. The forecast going into February is for arctic air guaranteeing traditional Adirondack winter conditions for the start of the 2024 Lake George Winter Carnival. The festivities kick off with opening ceremonies in Shepard Park on Saturday, February 3, at noon. The Lake George Winter Carnival Committee has scheduled a full slate of activities for the opening weekend including a parade, fireworks, outhouse races, chili cookoff and the Lake George Dogs Got Talent dog show (enter your furry friend on the day of the show for a chance to win prizes from The Dog Cabin.)

The Winter Carnival’s signature event, the Outhouse Race, is hosted by the Lagoon. This year, five-person teams will be competing for a total of $2,000 in prizes. The 2024 Winter Carnival Outhouse Races will be held in Battlefield Park unless enough ice forms on the lake for on-ice racing. For details on outhouse specifications and to register a team, visit https://lgwc.ticketleap.com/2024outhouse/. Registration for opening weekend outhouse races closes February 1. A second running of the outhouses will be held on Week 3, February 17. Registration for the Week 3 race closes on February 15.

The Lake George Winter Carnival, now in its 62nd year, is held each weekend in February. If Lake George has not frozen enough to safely allow on-ice events, the Carnival Committee will find alternate locations in most cases.
