Foliage-watches are reporting brilliant colors as far south as Saratoga and north to Tupper and Lake Placid as we enter into the holiday weekend. While the mountains sloping into Lake George are heavily forested with evergreens, the conifers are dappled with flamboyant displays from turning maples, birches, and poplars. A drive along local roads will dazzle drivers who pass under boughs of red, orange and gold.
Warrensburg, and points north are rapidly changing color, and a thick carpet of leaves, brought down by heavy rains earlier this week, coat the fields and forest floors of Northern Warren County.
Visitors have a smorgasbord of October Fests and autumn celebrations to choose from over the Columbus Day weekend. The Village of Lake George will close a section of Canada Street, its main thoroughfare, to accommodate revelers at the 2nd annual Oktoberfest. Farms and businesses throughout Thurman will be open for the town’s Fall Farm Tour. Deeper into the Adirondacks, Gore Mountain in North Creek will also have a weekend long Harvest Fest.
