Lake George Farmers Market to host Mayor Blais book signing

Lake George Village Mayor Robert Blais will be at the Lake George Village Farmers Market in Shepard Park tomorrow, Aug. 23, signing and selling his book, “A View from the Top.” Proceeds from the Mayor Blais book signing will benefit the Lake George Arts Project. “A View from the Top,” published in 2015, will be offered at a discounted price of $20.

Blais was first elected Mayor in 1971 and holds the distinction of being one of the longest tenured Mayors in the country. Prior to entering politics, Blais served as a Lake George police officer and Warren County Sheriff Deputy. His book is a compilation of stories and historic photos, presented in memoir form, of his life in business and public service. Not only does his work offer an interesting view of the Village of Lake George (a view from the top,) it is a fascinating story of an enterprising young man who jumped at business and political opportunities with great enthusiasm.

The beneficiary of the book-signing event, the Lake George Arts Project, was founded in 1977 with a mission to support artists while offering art programs to Lake George visitors and residents. The Arts Project hosts free weekly concerts in Shepard Park throughout the summer and the renowned Jazz at the Lake jazz festival each fall. The Lake George Arts Project Gallery, located in the Old County Courthouse on Canada Street, exhibits the work of national and regional contemporary artists.

Mayor Blais will be at the Lake George Farmers Market 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free parking is available for Farmers Market patrons directly in front of Shepard Park on Canada Street. Those who are unable to make it to the park tomorrow may reserve a signed copy of  “A View from the Top” by calling the Lake George Arts Project at (518)668-2616 or emailing mail@lakegeorgearts.org.
