Lake George powers up Lights at the Lake with music, fireworks and parade

Thousands filled Shepard Park Saturday evening for the annual Lite up the Village celebration. The Village light displays that each winter fill Shepard and Blais parks have been extended this year to become Lights at the Lake with a continuous path of holiday light displays beginning at Shepard Park, continuing down Canada Street to Beach Road and through the Festival Commons at Wood Park.

Lite up the Village kicked off Saturday afternoon with fire pits throughout the park, food and beverage vendors and music at the Shepard Park amphitheater. On stage, WYNT TV news anchor Mark Mulholland officiated the Crazy Sweater Contest which awarded gift certificates to winners in the junior and adult categories.

Village of Lake George Mayor Ray Perry took the stage to welcome the attendees to the holiday event and express thanks to Village Master Gardener and Beautification Department Head Judy Gearwar for the work she and her staff put into creating the light displays.

The on-stage events concluded with a singalong of popular holiday tunes and a countdown to throw the switch to illuminate the thousands of holiday light displays throughout Lake George. In Shepard Park, the Beautification Department had created the village in miniature, replicating iconic village buildings surrounded by colorful lights. A fireworks display over the lake followed the illumination.

People lined Canada Street three and four deep to watch the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department’s Lighted Fire Truck Parade, which featured more than two dozen decorated fire trucks and floats. Santa and Mrs. Claus brought up the rear of the parade, and the fire department escorted them to the Firehouse where children lined up to meet them.

Lights at the Lake will run through March 2, 2025, Thursdays-Sundays, 4-9 p.m., with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday added during Christmas week, New Year’s Week and President’s Day week. The Village skating rink on Beach Road will also be open for skating.

Admission to Lights at the Lake and the skating rink is free. Skate rentals will be available for $5.
