Lake George St. Patrick’s Day festivities planned for this weekend

Sham “Rock” the Block returns this Saturday, March 17, with most activities held in or outside of Duffy’s Tavern on Lower Amherst Street. This is the eighth year for the popular block party, which in past years had been held outdoors.

This year, a glance at the forecast told organizers that the lineup of musicians will be performing inside on the Duffy’s Tavern stage. The weekend-long event includes live classic and modern Celtic music, Irish step dancing, a beer garden in Duffy’s parking lot (expect to find fire pits for warmth), bounce houses, pony rides, a scavenger hunt for kids and pub crawl for adults. Duffy’s will be serving up $12.95 plates of corned beef and cabbage Saturday and Sunday.

The Lake George St. Patrick’s Day parade steps off on Sunday, March 18, from Beach Road at 1 p.m. and travels north along Canada Street to Amherst by Shepard Park. The Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade usually includes pipe bands, floats created by local businesses and local fire company vehicles.

New for this year, The Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce and CVB is hosting a Sham “Rock” the Block Vendor Fair at the Holiday Inn on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To date, 20 vendors have registered. Visit the Chamber website for a list of participants. Admission to the Sham “Rock” the Block Vendor Fair is free.
