Lake George St. Patrick’s Day parade attracts a crowd despite cold weather

Sub-freezing temperatures didn’t put a chill on festivities at the Lake George St. Patrick’s Day parade, which stepped off at noon today, March 16. Several hundred revelers lined Canada Street to cheer on the procession of pipers, dancers, fire engines and floats.

This is the third year Lake George has celebrated the mid-March holiday with a parade. This year’s lineup included the N.Y. S. Corrections Emerald Society Pipe Band, “Kathy,” the pink fire truck of the Northern New York chapter of Pink Heals, floats from several area businesses, Zumba dancers and green-attired dogs.

The parade launched day two of the Sham “Rock” the Block street party organized by Duffy’s Tavern and Bella’s Deli of Lower Amherst Street. The St. Patrick’s Day festival features a beer garden and an outdoor stage where musicians and dancers perform throughout the weekend. This year’s stage was enclosed by a heated 40 by 80 foot tent, with plenty of room for a dance floor, picnic tables and merchandise vendors.

Sham “Rock” the Block has been an annual St. Patrick’s Day party in Lake George since 2011.
