The Lake George Winter Carnival 2020 opened for its third weekend with bitterly cold temperatures that came a little too late to support The Electric City Riders’ on-ice motorcycle racing, but crowds still flocked to the lake’s shore to enjoy a full slate of activities.
Saturday, Feb. 15 featured a chowder cook-off, a hot chocolate bar and make-you-own s’mores with fireworks capping off the day’s events. Holiday Inn’s TR Restaurant took first prize in the cook-off out of a field of 17 chowders.
Sunday, the temperatures moderated and events included free make-your-own sundaes, karaoke and ice diving demonstrations. Men competed for a gift card to Lake George Beach Club by tossing a beer keg and women heaved cast iron skillets for a chance at a Capri Pizza gift certificate. Both days offered pony rides, carriage rides, the Lake George Dogs got Talent show and a bonfire on the beach.
The Winter Carnival continues February 22-23 with the Adirondack Pond Hockey Tournament, AMEC sanctioned on-ice car races, 4×4 Ice drags, Chicken Wing cook-off, bonfire, fireworks and more. Visit the Lake George Winter Carnival Facebook page for schedules and updated information.
