Large crowd enjoys Blues Night in Shepard Park

It was a muggy night in Lake George but the sultry air just added to the Mississippi Delta atmosphere of the Lake George Arts Project’s Blues Night. The concert drew a crowd of close to 300 to Shepard Park this past Wednesday, August 8.

Street Corner Holler opened the show with its brand of Delta blues playing with heartfelt abandon blues classics along with their original works. The thumping bass and slide guitar work captivated the audience drawing some out onto the dance patio.

Street Corner Holler was followed by The Ernie Williams Band and their style of Chicago blues. Legendary bandleader Ernie Williams passed away this March, and his band carries on as a tribute to the Albany area bluesman. The band played several of Williams’s original works, closing the evening with a rousing version of Can’t Shake That Woman.

The Lake George Arts Projects sponsors free concerts every Wednesday night throughout the summer. The Arts Project was established in 1977 to offer opportunities for artists and to provide arts programming for Lake George residents and visitors.

Next week the series continues with the Ramblin Jug Stompers taking the stage in Shepard Park at 7:30 p.m.
