Battle of Lake George soldiers to be honored at Memorial Day 2019 ceremony

They are the oldest recognized unknown American Soldiers in the nation. The remains of four men killed in the September 8, 1755 Battle of Lake George are buried in Battlefield Park, and each Memorial Day, the Lake George Battlefield Park (Fort George) Alliance gathers at their grave to recognizes the contribution of these soldiers and other Americans who fought in the French and Indian War.

This year’s ceremony will be held Monday, May 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Grave of the Unknowns located on the East side of Fort George Road. American Legion Post 374, Fort William Henry and the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department are providing support for the ceremony. The event will include a brief talk about the Battle of Lake George and the soldiers buried in the park, the Soldier’s Prayer, a wreath laying and musket salute.  Following the ceremony, Alliance members are offering a guided tour of the historical park. Admission to the park and parking will be free for those attending the ceremony.
