Large events, smaller community ones and local business specials will keep Lake George hopping this May. The Barbershop Harmony Convention and the Law Enforcement Officers Weekend are new for 2017. Many restaurants (and a cruise ship) are offering special menus for Mother’s Day. The Fort William Henry Museum opens for the season May 5, and The Great Escape is opening May 13 with new rides. Here’s a schedule of Lake George May events:
Friday, May 5 – Sunday, May 7 Barbershop Harmony Society Convention
The Northeastern District of the Barbershop Harmony Society is bringing its competition to Lake George, and the public is invited to listen. Events will be held at the Lake George High School on Canada Street. Saturday evening features The Big Show, a performance by three international finalists. The Big Show begins at 8:15. Friday, May 5 – Sunday, May 7 Log & Timber Frame Home Show
Log and timber frame home builders and dealers will be at the Lake George Forum to exhibit their designs and answer questions about construction and financing. The exposition also features rustic furniture and accessories. More than 60 vendors are slated for this event. Tickets are $12 at the door; $10 if bought in advance online. Ages 18 and younger are free. Tickets are good for all three days of the show.
Saturday, May 6 – Sunday, May 7 Lake George Community Garage Sale
Residents throughout the town and village will set up yard sales 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Maps will be available at the Village Hall on May 5. In conjunction with the garage sale, merchants will be holding sidewalk sales outside their Lake George Village shops.
Wednesday, May 10 – Adirondack Pub & Brewery Coming out of Hibernation Party
The party is held at the Pub & Brewery on Canada Street, 4 – 7 p.m. Complimentary samples, music, food, games and raffles. Cash bars will be open inside and out. The Brewery will be releasing their Cider Project at the party. Admission is free.
Friday, May 12 – Sunday, May 14 Mother’s Day Wine Tasting
The Adirondack Winery is treating moms to a free wine slushie and offering special upgrades at their wine tasting room on Canada Street.
Friday, May 19 – Sunday, May 21 Law Enforcement Officers Weekend
This new event aims to bring active and retired law enforcement officers and their families to Lake George for a weekend of fun, camaraderie and relaxation. The weekend includes seminars, competitions, golfing, a chicken barbecue, comedy show and other activities. The Fort William Henry Hotel will serve as headquarters. Activities will take place at venues throughout town. Organizers plan to make this an annual event. Register online here.
Saturday, May 20 Lake George Community Garden Club Plant Sale
The sale will be held in Shepard Park, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Club members offer a large variety of high-quality perennials that are potted and ready for planting in zone 4 and 5 gardens. Gardeners will be on hand to offer instructions and advice. The sale also features garden art objects, dish gardens and hand-painted clay pots. Proceeds from this annual perennial sale benefit community projects, scholarship programs and the club’s educational programs.
Monday, May 29 – Memorial Day Observance
Members of the Lake Fire Department, American Legion, Fort William Henry and Fort George Alliance will gather at the Unknown Soldiers gravesite in Battlefield Park for a 10:30 a.m. ceremony and musket salute. The site holds the remains of four soldiers who died in the Battle of Lake George.

Wednesday, May 31 – Sunday, June 4 Lake George Elvis Festival
The Lake George Elvis Fest kicks off Wednesday evening with opening ceremonies and a free show in Shepard Park beginning at 7 p.m. Elvis tribute artist contests, Elvis-themed parties, cruises and a parade fill out festival schedule. The Village of Lake George is continuing its fundraising efforts for the Shepard Park Bandstand Improvement Project. Funds raised by June 1 will be matched by the Charles R. Wood Foundation up to $25,000. Planned improvements to the park amphitheater include a new light system, upgrades to the sound system and expanded seating.
