Photos: Festival for the Lake with Skeeter Creek

True story:
Country band Skeeter Creek (guitars, bass, keyboard, drums) packed the dance floor last night at the Shepard Park amphitheater performing “Country Girl (Shake it for Me)” when, suddenly, a brass section materializes on the stage to blast out the song’s horn riff.

It turns out, the horns are part of Cryin’ Out Loud, the band playing the Lake George Beach Club next door. They just walked across the park with their brass and joined Skeeter Creek on stage. That’s the Lake George music scene.

The Festival for the Lake kicked off Friday, Aug. 3 with arts and craft vendors, a beer and wine tent, and food trucks lining the sidewalks at Shepard Park in Lake George Village. A double-header of live music opened with Bolton Landing band The Switch. Skeeter Creek took over the show giving a two-hour show with two encores.

The Festival for the Lake continues Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4 – 5, with music beginning at noon both days. Admission is free. Organizers are selling Festival t-shirts, $10 each, to benefit The Fund for Lake George. The Festival is a production of the S.A.V.E. (Stop Aquatic inVasives from Entering) Lake George Partnership. Funds raised help finance the mandatory boat wash stations and salt-reduction initiatives.
