Pumpkin Chunkin’ returns to Lake George with medieval village, dancing witches

Adirondack Pub & Brewery’s annual Pumpkin Chunkin’ is expanding for 2023. “This started mainly with catapulting pumpkins. It’s grown into an event that mixes a medieval village with dancing witches, and more” says Adirondack Pub & Brewery owner John Carr. “Now we have more than double the amount of vendors this year.”

Pumpkin Chunkin’ will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 1 to 5 p.m., in the event field behind High Peaks Distilling, 1 Canada Street, Lake George. Admission is free. This is a rain-or-shine event.

The family-friendly event includes children’s activities, a giant slide, a bounce house, carnival rides and games, food and beer trucks and live music. Gem Radio Theater Witches Dance Group and Wizard Grondahl the Wand Maker will be entertaining. Interactive storyteller Thimbleberry the Wood Sprite will regale those who enter her forest with magical tales. In the medieval village, attendees will be carried back to the Middle Ages with a blacksmith forge, battle demonstrations and craft vendors.

In addition to catapults for heaving pumpkins across the field, attendees will have the opportunity to sling fruit from apple slingshots. Attendees are invited to bring their Halloween Jack O’ lanterns, although they don’t catapult well, —they fall apart — the brewery will use them for a giant pumpkin drop.
