A new music festival is opening this weekend, Aug. 2 – 4, in Shepard Park, and it is named for a guy with bright red hair and big red shoes. Yes, the Ronald of “Rockin’ with Ronald” is the burger chain clown Ronald McDonald. Although the Lake George McDonald’s is gone, Ronald has a new interest in the Village, Krantz Cottage. The cottage is a retreat house for the Family Retreat Program of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region.
The Ottawa Street house, former residence of Marcia and Howard Krantz, is currently undergoing renovations, and beginning this fall, critically ill children and their families will be able to enjoy a week’s vacation in Lake George free of cost. The idea is to give these families, who are under great emotional and financial strain, an opportunity to take a break and create family memories. Proceeds from the Rockin’ with Ronald Music Festival will go towards this project.
Admission to the festival is free. Metered parking is available on surrounding streets and in area parking lots. The festival features a beer and wine tent, food trucks, bounce houses and arts and craft vendors. Festival souvenirs will be available for purchase. This is a kid and dog-friendly venue.
