State temporarily closes Lake George Million Dollar Beach following storm

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation announced on Wednesday that Lake George Beach, known as Million Dollar Beach, will be temporarily closed to assure the health and safety of bathers. Heavy rains through Lake George on Tuesday resulted in elevated levels of the bacteria E. coli found in water sampling at the beach. The beach will remain closed until testing results show improved water quality.

DEC also announced that several day-use areas and campsites in the Narrows Island group suffered downed trees and damaged infrastructure and docks. The affected areas will be closed as cleanup and repairs are made. People who have reservations will be contacted.
