Lobster rolls, NY Strip steak and shrimp served on skewers, shredded beef tacos with grilled peach and carrot slaw and hefty submarine sandwiches were among the selections at the 14th Annual Taste of Diamond Point held on Saturday, July 20. The event is a fundraiser for Diamond Point Community Church, and the 2024 edition drew a large crowd to the church lawn where they could sample food donated by area restaurants and delicatessens.
“It’s a labor of love for all of us,” says trustee Chris McKenna, noting that except for the chefs sent to serve up their specialties, all the people working at Taste of Diamond Point are parishioners. It’s a strong community, she says, and every year, they look forward with excitement to Father’s Day when the nondenominational church holds its first service of the summer season.
Visitors to Taste of Diamond Point were greeted by parishioners at the front of the lawn where they purchased $1 tickets to exchange for a food sample. Most samples were priced at two or three tickets. Bottled water and soft drinks could be had for one ticket.
This year’s menu included Lobster Cheese Cake from Helova Deli, Biscuits and sausage gravy from Lone Bull Pancake House, skewered shrimp and strip steak from Up North Market, Shredded Beef Taco from the Inn at Erlowest, submarine sandwiches from Stable Gate Deli, pulled pork sliders from Painted Pony, lobster rolls from the Lake George Club and Stewarts Make Your Own Sundaes.

Volunteers roamed the lawn selling lengths of raffle tickets for chances to win gift certificates and bottles of wine from local businesses. The Master of Ceremonies called out winning numbers every ten minutes throughout the event. Visitors also could bid on gift baskets in a silent action.
The historic Diamond Point Community Church, built in 1876, has welcomed summer residents, visitors and local families for Sunday worship for 145 years. Services are held from Father’s Day through Labor Day and are led by a rotation of visiting pastors of various denominations. The church is also available for weddings, baptisms and memorial services.
