With an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start, golfers will tee off at Top of the World Golf Course Friday, Sept. 28, to help give local kids “a little lift.” The Ben – 2018 tournament, hosted by The Ben Osborn Memorial Fund, Berkshire Bank, Whiteman Chevrolet and Northeastern Fine Jewelry, will take the four-man scramble format and includes prizes for closest to the pin, straight drive, long drive and several contests, including a hole-in-one contest with the prize of a car from Whiteman’s Chevy.
The Ben Osborn Memorial Fund was founded to honor CPL Benjamin Osborn, a Lake George graduate who was killed in Afghanistan in June 2010 while serving with the U.S. Army. The Fund identifies children who need help (the charity’s tagline is “Giving kids a little lift”) with things such as eyeglasses, school supplies, clothing, field trip expenses and transportation costs. The Ben Osborn Fund also provides scholarships, donates household and personal care items to local food pantries and adopts families for the holidays.
To date, the Fund has helped more than 10,000 children in 47 schools throughout Warren, Washington, Saratoga and Essex Counties. Another fund initiative, Ben’s Book Stations, has put 17 book stations in the region to provide kids 24/7 access to reading materials. The Fund has also distributed more than 500 personal hygiene kits to local adolescents.
Entry fee to The Ben – 2018 Tournament is $125. This includes 18 holes with cart, lunch, draft beer, water and soft drinks. A reception will follow with heavy hors d’oeuvres, live music, award ceremony, 50/50 raffle, a silent and live auction. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Individuals will be paired with other golfers.
