Photos: Village Farmers’ Market re-opens with eclectic mix of foods, arts and crafts

Business has been “pretty good,” says Krista Mein, owner of Jake’s Jammin’ Bow ties. “Seems like a lot of people are happy that we’re here — lots of smiles on faces.” Mein is one of several vendors selling at the 2021-season launch of the Lake George Village Farmers’ Market. The Market opened this Wednesday and will continue to operate each Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., through September 22 at Shepard Park on Canada Street.

Mein’s novelty bow ties are designed for dogs, although cats have been seen wearing them as well. Mein’s partner makes human bow ties, but they don’t sell as well, according to Mein. Her business is named for her dog Jake, a rescue dog.  Jake passed away last summer, but his legacy lives on through the business he inspired. To honor her pet, Mein donates part of the proceeds from bow tie sales to animal shelters.

Rachael Lujbli of Rachael’s Bread

In the stall next to Jake’s Jammin’ Bow ties, Rachael Lujbli, of Rachael’s Bread, sells freshly baked bread, rolls, cookies and pies. Her sourdough bread sold out before noon, and her country white bread supply was dwindling. Any leftover goods she sells at her bread stand at 1601 Bay Road, Lake George. Once a week she donates bread to the Open Door Mission in Glens Falls.

Commercial baking is a new endeavor, Lujbli explains. She began baking to relieve the stress brought on by the pandemic. Family and friends began to ask for her products and offered to pay. Her business grew from there. Lujbli uses organic flour, butter, milk and eggs gathered from her own chickens.
