The Warrensburgh Riverfront Farmers’ Market launched its 26th season away from the riverfront. The popular season opener, the Rhubarb Festival, was held under the pavilion at the Warrensburg Recreation Field on Library Avenue, a space that offers more parking, more room for vendors, and better protection from the elements.
In addition to bundles of fresh rhubarb, rhubarb for planting, and free rhubarb recipe sampler plates, vendors sold fresh produce, eggs, organic poultry, fresh baked goods, craft spirits, garlic, maple and honey products, fudge, and gourmet popcorn. Arts and crafters sold their wares including jewelry, pottery, and woodcrafts.
Shelby Burkhardt, Director of Richards Library led children in a hands-on craft project and Warren County Master Gardeners were on hand to answer horticultural questions and provide growing information. Glens Falls Hospital Emergency Department employees, as part of a campaign to make the public aware of the hospital’s Stroke Center, handed out leaflets on the symptoms of strokes and heart attacks. The New York State Department of Public Service also attended the festival to inform the public of their services to ensure New Yorkers have access to safe and affordable utilities.
Musician Mike Grazioso of Schroon Lake provided the music, playing his guitar and harmonica, and singing popular songs as shoppers browsed the vendor stalls, sampled goods and enjoyed free coffee.
The Warrensburg Riverfront Farmers’ Market will return to its riverfront home on River Street, across from Curtis Lumber, for its regular market and will be open each Friday from 3-6 p.m. The Market will be held again at the Recreation Field for each festival this season.
