Water Slide World: Cool option for a hot day in Lake George

Lake George’s Water Slide World is one of the first water parks to open in the country, and its most visible feature, a giant pirate ship, has become a point of reference on Route 9 just south of Lake George Village. Although the Six Flags theme park to its south has added a water park, Water Slide World is still a good bet for those seeking a day of wave pools and water slides without the long lines and expense of a large amusement park.

The water park is small enough, 12 acres, that families can easily keep track of each other, yet the park’s compact design includes a diversity of rides making it suitable for all ages. The slides range from gently cascading to steep plunges; a winding river for tubing, a wave pool and 6-inch deep toddler lagoons round out the park’s water features.

The park is tidy and appears to be well maintained. Even on the busier days of summer, the lines at Water Slide World move quickly. Lawn chairs and recliners surround the toddler areas and wave pool for sunbathing, reading and relaxing.

Changing rooms with locker rentals, restrooms and food service are centrally located. A snack kiosk offers ice cream novelties, cotton candy, hot dogs, chips and beverages. A more substantial menu of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, pizza and French fries is available in the cafeteria. A hamburger, French fries and soda meal costs around $10. Food purchases are cash only. Coolers are allowed (no glass or alcohol) and the park provides a sheltered picnic area.

Upon entering the park it is readily apparent that safety is a top priority. Dozens of lifeguards surround each water pool and the rides have height restrictions to ensure visitors don’t get in over their heads. Life jackets are provided at no cost for non-swimmers.
