Oversized skeletons, polystyrene tombstones, synthetic cobwebs and grinning pumpkins are appearing in the neighborhood. Halloween 2024 falls on a Thursday, a school night, but children excited about transforming into Buzz Lightyear, Optimus Prime or Elsa of Arendelle can get an early start on Halloween fun, and candy collecting, at several events being held by Lake George Area organizations, municipalities and businesses. Here is a roundup of some nearby Halloween events.
BooTown Fall Festival

The Fall Festival is geared towards children aged 10 years and younger. Admission is $8. Babies 12 months and younger are admitted free. Activities include Halloween arts and crafts, haystack climbing, pony rides ($10), face painting ($10) and a scavenger hunt. The festival includes games, food and drinks. For the older crowd, BooTown offers a Haunted Maze at night with an interactive zombie hunt. Tickets to the maze and zombie hunt are $20.
Revolution Rail Track or Treat Halloween Railbiking Event
Oct. 19-20 and Oct. 26-27, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Thurman Station

Pedal a railbike along the Hudson River while enjoying free candy. The 9-mile route begins at the Thurman Depot and runs along the river to Stony Creek past 1,000 Acres Ranch where riders may take a restroom break and visit concession stands. Appropriate for all ages. Feel free to wear costumes. The cost is $90 for a double railbike and $160 for a quad railbike (prices are per bike, not per person). Small Tales Not So Spooky Halloween Party

This fundraiser is geared towards younger children and includes cookie decorating, pumpkin painting, games with prizes, a bake sale and a Not So Spooky Haunted Hallway. Each activity comes with a suggested donation to support the not-for-profit daycare center. Costumes encouraged.

This new event is scheduled as a pre-Boo2You activity. The 50-minute concert features members of the symphony from the string, woodwind, brass and percussion families. Lake George Trunk-or-Treat and more

The Lake George Youth Commission is presenting its first annual trunk-or-treat. Put on a costume and join the Lake George Halloween Parade, which steps off from the Lake George Junior/Senior High School, 381 Canada Street, at 4 p.m. The parade route ends at Shepard Park where children may follow the trunk-or-treat trail. From 5-6 p.m., trick-or-treaters may join a dance party in the park. The Lake George Beach Club on Lower Montcalm Street invites trick-or-treaters in for hot chocolate and candy.
